Cam Report 2.5 released (30 June 2011)

Just in in time for summer, Cam Report 2.5 has been released on the App Store. We're very excited about this version, and especially hope that the new and much more flexible shot and scene numbering will make life easier for our users in the US and Germany. Among other major changes it's now possible to attach pictures to takes, and to automatically calculate ARRI Alexa file names. Finally, uploading productions is now free, while the app itself costs money. Existing users will (of course) get the upgrade for free.

Here's how numbering works when you add a new shot:

  • If all the shot numbers in your entire productions are numerical (no letters anywhere), Cam Report will set the number to one higher than the last.
  • If you have at least one shot number with a letter in it, Cam Report will increment the last letter of the previously added shot. In other words, after adding shot 727A you'll get shot 727B.
  • If your previous shot number contains a slash but is otherwise numerical (e.g. 33/1), Cam Report will increase the latter number (e.g. 33/2).

Scene numbers for new shots behave in a similar way: With a purely numerical production a new shot will inherit the previous scene number. In other cases the scene number will follow the shot number.

Pictures

You can add pictures to a take by scrolling to the bottom of the Take screen and tapping the camera icon. We've found that they're useful both to record stuff on-set and to include storyboards and other reference material from iPhoto. The pictures you add will of course appear in Cam Report Web.

Please note that images do add a lot of bulk to reports. If you're on a slow Internet connection (especially in the field) it might be a good idea to limit the number of pictures to make sure uploads don't take too long. On the other hand, each image will only be transferred once, and after that uploading reports should be just as fast (or slow) as before.

Alexa file names

Cam Report has been able to calculate RED and Canon file names for a while already. We hope that the new Alexa support will save time for those of you shooting with German hardware.

Free uploads

Uploading reports used to require a paid subscription. Uploading is now free, whereas Cam Report itself will cost about 30 bucks to download for new users. Existing users will get the version (and uploads) for free, and we'll issue refunds for those of you with active, paid upload subscriptions.

We hope you like Cam Report 2.5. Please don't hesitate to send us an email if you have questions or feedback.

Thanks!
